Pez "Raspberry"

Pez

I think it’s safe to say that this candy tastes nothing like raspberry. Even in the world of fake flavours, I don’t really get raspberry out of this. That’s not to say that this brick of candy tastes bad, it just doesn’t say raspberry to me. It’s funny, although it doesn’t say raspberry, it does taste of pink. I’m not sure exactly why, but I feel like the pink colour of this candy goes very well with the pink flavour. There have been a few candies and drinks out there that have been named for their colour, and I feel like this could easily be called “Pez Pink”.

As for the candy itself, I’ve mentioned this many times, but it really needs the dispenser to be something amazing. The funny thing about this as a candy is that it’s so rooted in pop culture and in the memories of the western world, that no one seems to notice how weird it actually is. In my travels I haven’t really seen Pez outside of the cultures that have had it for a very long time, and I wonder if anyone could possibly introduce this candy into a culture that had no history with it.

Texture wise, I actually don’t mind biting into a brick of Pez. There’s something very satisfying about that crunch and the way the brick instantly turns into a cloud of powder in your mouth. For fun, I’ve decided to try and suck on one of these bricks of Pez to find out if there’s anything I’ve been missing throughout the year. I will say that the flavour is much stronger when you suck on it, but the satisfaction is not nearly the same.
