Dulce De Leche

Balcarce

I’m not really sure what this is supposed to be, or what it’s supposed to taste like. I see the word “merengue” on the package and a few other slightly familiar words, but I’m still not sure. After opening it up, I can only describe it by its parts. There appears to be a lot of powdered sugar on the outside of what appears to be some kind of cookie. The center seems to be some kind of caramel, but that would only make sense with the name of the cookie being Dulce De Leche. I will also say that this cookie appears to be fairly broken, I assume that comes from the fact that this bar was shipped thousands of kilometers from where I’m eating it. In fact, I’d be more surprised if it wasn’t broken.

I’m going to assume that the fact that this cookie is broken isn’t going to change the flavour and texture that much. Speaking of flavour and texture, in both cases this cookie is really strange. The flavour is strange because the strongest flavour I can taste in this cookie is lemon. This is strange because I can’t find anything that would lead me to believe this cookie should have any lemon flavour at all. It seems that most of the lemon flavour is coming from the white powder that’s covering this cookie. I would have assumed that it should have been caramel flavoured, but maybe there’s something I’m missing. Texture wise the strange part of this cookie comes from the cookie portion; it seems like a cross between a cookie and a cake. It’s not a bad texture, just a little different and nothing like merengue.

I wouldn’t say that this cookie is bad, but it is really strange. I probably would have enjoyed it more if it came unwrapped with no particular expectations.
