When I saw this bag of chips I felt a certain connection to it, something deeper than normal. This connection was with my heritage, with my grandmother in particular. Sour cream, cheddar cheese and Potato are pretty much the key ingredients to my grandmother’s pirogues. Fried up in a pan on a Sunday afternoon pirogue are pretty much a staple memory for me as a child. These chips taped into that memory and almost brought a tear to my eye.
When I ate them, I could kind of taste the pirogues that my grandmother used to make, however one thing was truly missing. I missed the cool sensation of the sour cream in contrast with the warm potato filling. I'm not sure how one could do that with chips but it seems pretty vital if you want a sour cream theme. To be honest the sour cream flavour was also pretty weak in comparison with the cheese. Maybe there was a hint of something creamy other than cheese, but it wasn't strong enough in my opinion.
This is not to say that these chips where bad, but pretty much they just tasted like cheddar cheese flavoured chips/ The idea of this flavour combination is really something different, unfortunately with the poor execution they came off as not very unique.
