Jyurulli Chocolate with Jelly "Strawberry!/Soda!"

Tirol Choco Brand

In order to review this treat, it’s important to look at the similarities and the differences between the two flavours on offer, soda and strawberry. I’ll start by looking at the similarities, and the first obvious similarity you’ll find with these is the bright colours. One would expect the jelly to be brightly coloured, but no one would expect the chocolate to be brighter. The strawberry squares are bright pink and the soda squares are bright blue. The package does not exaggerate the bold colours of these squares at all, they are intense.

The other similarity between these two squares is the boldness of the flavours. There is nothing subtle about these squares in colour or in flavour. Both flavours are very intense, but also a little bit tart, which was nice. Both of these squares also have no chocolate flavour whatsoever. Don’t look for a fun chocolate and strawberry or weird chocolate and soda flavour combination, the flavour of these is totally strawberry and soda. As an additional note, I should mention that the soda flavour in question is not your Coca-Cola or Pepsi flavour. The soda flavour they’re going for is Ramune soda, a popular drink in Asia.

These are bold and bright, but how do they differ? First of all they have a fun colour difference. The soda flavoured squares have a blue “chocolate” with a red jelly, while the strawberry flavoured squares have the opposite. Flavour wise there is a slight difference, but honestly I found them to be fairly similar. This is likely because the strawberry flavour was very fake, and ramune soda has a very fake berry flavour to it. In other words, the strawberry tasted nothing like strawberries and the ramune tasted exactly like ramune, but they both tasted very similar. I even ate a few of these before I realized there was two different flavours in the box.

In hindsight I kind of wish I just had only one flavour of these squares. Having the comparison just showed how much they really don’t taste different. Also, you might notice that I’ve been avoiding using the word “chocolate” in this review and simply calling these squares, this was on purpose. While I don’t doubt that there’s some white chocolate in these, there’s much more jelly than chocolate. The other problem is that the chocolate is so overly coloured and flavoured that other than texture, it tastes and looks nothing like any normal chocolate.
