In my entire time writing reviews for candy, I don't think I've ever said that you shouldn't get a particular flavour of Kit Kat bar. I have on occasion mentioned that one particular flavour of Kit Kat wasn't as good as it could be, but I've never flat out said that I don't think you should try a flavour of Kit Kat. That is until today.
I can't say that I was surprised that a wasabi Kit Kat wouldn't work. In fact, I was very prepared for it to not work. I was also slightly prepared for Nestle to surprise me with a strange Kit Kat flavor that did work. I was hoping they might pull some kind of miracle out of their sleeve and make a wasabi Kit Kat bar work. They did not. What you have here is a white chocolate Kit Kat bar that has a really strange secondary flavour. The secondary flavour is wasabi without any of the heat. It's also strange that the wasabi flavour and the white chocolate flavour are perfectly balanced, it felt like I would get a blast of wasabi and then a blast of white chocolate with every other bite.
I'm not sure if there's a way to make this bar work. This bar is one hundred percent gimmick, with no redeeming value. I love a great gimmick, but I want it to surprise me as well. Some gimmicks surprise me more than others, this one didn't surprise me at all.
