M&M's "White Chocolate Sugar Cookie"

Mars

I’m not sure that sugar cookies make the best M&M’s. I say this because I’m not really sure what sugar cookies should taste like without the sprinkles and icing. I’m assuming that sugar cookies by definition should taste like sugar, but I also feel like they have a slight vanilla flavour too. In that respect I would say that these do taste like sugar, with a bit of vanilla. The thing about sugar cookies for me is that the joy I get eating them is in the sprinkles and icing. It’s really a simple cookie that delivers fun festive edible decorations. The cookie itself is very simple, not bland, but also not that exciting. These tasted okay, they would have tasted better with a nice buttery shortbread cooking filling instead.

The one thing that the sugar cookie added to these M&M’s that truly worked is an amazing texture. Again I feel like that’s something that the sugar cookie also does, gives the icing and sprinkles a nice texture. These M&M’s have really reinforced the notion to me that the best M&M’s have a crunchy texture. Don’t get me wrong, I love the caramel and chocolate M&M’s, but there’s just something so satisfying about a crunchy M&M. The only thing that could be missing texture wise from these is the extra crunchy texture of the sprinkles often found in sugar cookies. Even the cookie that the character is holding on the package has sprinkles, these don’t have any at all.

I feel like these candies worked well enough, but could have been so much more. I also feel like manufacturing these M&M’s must have been really challenging. I don’t think I’ve ever had so many conjoined M&M’s in any package before. I would say that about one out of every 10 of them were conjoined. I would also say that the size variation between each M&M was pretty drastic as well. I don’t think this is laziness, I assume it’s a difficulty with manufacturing.

Take this review with a grain of salt as sugar cookies are not really my favourite cookie, particularly during the holiday season. I’m always going to encourage M&M’s to continue with their experimentation because even when it’s not that great (like these ones) they’re still pretty good, particularly to crunch.
