My first reaction to seeing the package of this candy was a question. The question, what part of this candy is monstrous? There are three descriptions that are attached to the word monstrous on the package, soft, sour and blueberry. It could also be that these candies are monstrous in every category. Based on candy trends, my assumption is that it is going to be an extreme sour candy, since extreme flavours like sour are very trendy. Extreme fruit and soft candies are not so much.
After biting into just one of these gummies I’ve realized that I was wrong. While this candy has a nice blueberry flavour, and it is sour, the most extreme thing about this candy is how soft it is. I would totally describe this candy as a gummy, however it’s almost as soft as a very soft marshmallow. You can flatten the candy out pretty well with just your fingers, and your teeth sink into it very easily. I would say that this is more of a jelly than a gummy, but there’s some arguments as to whether or not gummies and jellies are different candies.
Flavour was I wasn’t disappointed, but I wouldn’t call the flavours anything that original. The blueberry is a standard fake candy blueberry flavour. That’s not a bad thing as I often enjoy fake blueberry flavours, but it wasn’t particularly note worthy either. The sourness, which I expected to be the star of the show is fairly mild. I wouldn’t go so far as to say it’s tart and not sour. I would most certainly describe this as sour, but not very sour. It’s on the lighter end of the sour spectrum without losing the title sour.
The softness of this candy is interesting. It’s interesting because not that many candy companies see soft in an extreme way. The package design and name suggest something extreme, but the candy is actually soft and squishy.
