I always have a hard time describing the type of candy that’s found on the inside of these crunchy candies. It’s the same type of centre that one finds in a Crispy Crunch and a Butterfinger. It’s like a flaky toffee with a strong peanut flavour. In this case I’m pretty sure there are actual pieces of peanut as well. The flaky toffee is super satisfying to crunch, although it does stick to your teeth a bit after a few chews. I’m sure in food science there’s a technical word for this kind of crunchy filling, but for now I’ll just call it flaky toffee.
The good thing about these is that it has one very unique feature that makes it stand out from other flaky toffee treats. The most common thing candy companies seem to do with flaky toffee is cover it in chocolate. These on the other hand seem to have some kind of candy coating instead. I’ll admit, it does make these super sweet, but since I run a website all about reviewing candy you can imagine that my threshold of sweet is pretty high. I didn’t mind the sweetness, but I will admit that I’d have a hard time eating too many of these in one sitting. The sugar coating also added to the crunchy texture of the flaky toffee giving it a little extra crunch.
While this was a fine treat, it wasn’t perfect. The sugar coating on every single one of these that I’ve eaten was flaking off. In some cases it was less than half covered. Each one of these candies is individually wrapped, so I imagine it could have been worse if there were all rubbing up against each other. However the amount these flaked apart made these a fairly messy treat. The size of these crunchy candy pillows was also very random. I had some that were double the size of others. It didn’t bother me that much, but it was a little odd.
These are unique and they’re fairly tasty. While they’re not perfect, I would totally recommend giving them a try, particularly if you’re a fan of flaky toffee treats like Butterfinger or Crispy Crunch.
