Peelerz "Banana"

Amos

The concept for this candy is frankly a concept that should have been done a long time ago. The idea that a gummy candy can provide both a taste and a tactile experience seems so simple, yet it took the folks at Amos to get it done. The basic design of these is exactly what I want in a candy, more importantly they didn’t get too fancy with the concept. A banana is a fruit that requires peeling, so why not make a gummy that can be peeled that both tastes and looks like a banana. It’s both fun and logical, and that’s not something we always get in the candy world.

While I really like the concept, there are a few things that are less than perfect. Texture wise the peel is a little difficult to remove. I’m sure there’s a manufacturing reason for this, but I found that when I tried to peel my banana it would always involve more ripping of the skin than an easy peel. The centre bit on the other hand was nice and soft, so it worked really well. The other problem I had with this candy is more about me than the candy itself. I’m not a huge fan of fake banana flavours, and that’s exactly what this tasted like.

You’re probably wondering why someone who doesn’t like fake banana would buy a banana flavoured gummy. That reason goes back to the theme. I figured if you’re going to taste a candy designed for peeling, then a banana flavoured candy seems like the most obvious choice. I guess what I’m saying is that this candy is a success. It could be better, with an easier to peel outside, but that’s really a minor problem. The fact that “I” don’t really like the flavour isn’t enough reason to avoid this treat. If you’re okay with fake banana flavour you’re going to love this treat.
