I guess you could call this Pocky’s attempt at making a dark chocolate version. The good thing is that it kind of works. While I wouldn’t call the chocolate flavour of this Pocky to be bitter (like most dark chocolates), I would call it more rich and maybe deeper (if that makes sense). I was actually kind of surprised when I took my first bite at how stronger the cocoa flavour was, in a good way.
There’s nothing about these that doesn’t say cocoa. It even says cocoa more than chocolate, if that makes sense. It’s almost as if they could have called these cocoa Pocky, since cocoa is really the main flavour. I’m a little curious about how they got the 60% in the name. I can only assume that both the cookie and the chocolate coating have 60% cocoa, but that seems a little far fetched. The chocolate sure, but while the cookie stick did feel more chocolaty (or cocoa-ey) I’m not sure if it also had 60% cocoa in it.
If you’re a dark chocolate fan, and a fan of Pocky, I think you might really like these. It feels like they got the idea down perfectly. It’s a very simple concept, to add more cocoa, but they made it work while still keeping the Pocky theme alive perfectly. If you happen to be a big fan of high quality dark chocolate, you may find these to be a little weak, but I can’t see any chocolate snobs out there deciding to buy a box of Pocky with high expectations of fine dark chocolate.
