This might be the first time I've ever updated a review before, that or we could call this a variation of a variation. It was a while ago when I reviewed Pocky Strawberry, so I decided to read my last review before writing this one. Flavor and texture wise these seem to balance up fairly well to the original. Since the variation is so similar to the original it didn't affect the way this tasted or how it crunched. so if you want to know more about those two aspects, it's simpler if you just read this older review.
As for the novelty, I guess that's where this Pocky has a slight difference. Frankly I had a hard time deciding if I liked the heart shaped cookie stick more or less than the standard round stick you find in most Pocky. It's probably easiest to say, I liked the idea of a heart shaped stick, but the execution didn't really work for me. The biggest failure comes from the fact that the color of the strawberry flavoured chocolate is so similar to the cookie that it's hard to see the heart when you bite into it. I also found when I looked really hard, that the shape of the heart was inconsistent, so it didn't always look like a heart. Sometimes I'd bite into the cookie and it would leave a lot of cookie debris, so I couldn't really see the heart then either. I would say that I could clearly see the heart about 20 percent of the time at best.
I think the solution for improving this would be to make the pink strawberry flavoured chocolate a darker colour of red. It might also help if they could make the cookie less crumbly, but only if it didn’t ruin the texture. Having said all that, I really liked the idea of having a heart shaped cookie stick, I just wish it worked better.
