I like this idea. I like the idea of putting potato chips into a Reese's Peanut Butter Cup because it's something I've never though of, yet after thinking about it I'm surprised it hasn't been seen before. My logic is based on the similarities between a peanut and chips. While I would consider peanuts and chips to be both savoury snacks, I also think that peanuts work with many sweet treats as well. In some ways nuts, and in particular peanuts cross this line often. So in some way the peanut has opened the door to allow the potato chip to cross over. Not that I don't think potato chips and chocolate don't work well together on their own.

The one thing about these cups is that it doesn't scream potato chips. There are certain features of potato chips that are certainly felt when you bite into these cups, but you're not overwhelmed with potato chip. I would say that these still firmly taste like Reese's Peanut Butter Cups, but with slight twists. The most obvious twist is the texture. I was really happy that the folks at Reese's managed to keep the crunchy potato chip texture. In some ways the texture of a potato chip is it's main function as a snack. Each bite of these cups was met with a crunch, but a crunch very different than a peanut crunch. The crunch was most certainly a potato chip crunch, and Allison even heard the crunch as I ate them.

The second difference between these and traditional Reese's Peanut Butter Cups was the saltiness. I feel like these are much saltier than regular peanut butter cups. While the traditional cups do have a slight peanut savoury flavour, these had a very pronounced saltiness. I love salty foods, and I love a good salty/sweet combination. I feel like those who aren't as big of fans of salty foods might find these to be a little too salty, but for me it was a really nice surprise. It also kept these in the potato chip theme.

I'm pretty sure that these are not going to be staying on the shelf forever, but for all of you adventurous (or even just slightly adventurous) snackers out there I would highly recommend giving these a try. They totally deliver on a great combination of peanut butter cup and potato chip.
