Who wouldn't want to eat sand? Haven’t you ever imagined a day when you could look down on the beach and just take a bite. To some degree one might call sand the ultimate health food (since it’s really a piece of nature in its purist), so in some ways eating a candy that’s themed like a pile of sand is like eating fake health food. I’m not sure if I’ve just managed to take the fun out of this treat. Somehow, I managed to convince myself that this fun bag of sand and ants is healthy, I need to attack this from a different angle.
So, if you’re wondering how you can package up a bag of sand and sell it to people as a fun treat there is a way you can do that. What and have to do is turn that pile of sand into yummy bubble gum. It sounds counter intuitive, the last thing one would want to think about when eating sand is also chewing on a piece of bubble gum. The thing is, the folks at Fleer somehow made it work. It’s probably because they make it go from a sand to bubble gum. Had they turned it around and made you eat gum that then turned into sand, that wouldn’t have worked.
Although the novelty of this treat is great, the flavour’s lasting power is pretty low. It seems strange to complain about the fact that my handful of sand that changed into gum doesn’t have long lasting flavour, but that is the case. The flavour itself is okay, actually it tastes kind of like Juicy Fruit gum, which is pretty good in my book.
The one difficulty of this candy is that it takes a bit of effort not to swallow all the sand bits. Chewing sand is just something your mouth does not want to do at all.
