Skittles "Desserts"

Wrigley's

I don’t think I’ve ever been as disappointed with a bag of Skittles in my life. It’s not that I didn’t enjoy the flavour of these Skittles, they just didn’t live up to the name or description in slightest. It was so unlike what I was expecting based on the package. I’m convinced that they designed the package with some great ideas, but ran out of time trying to make the actual Skittles inside the package. I figure that they just randomly threw in some flavours instead of creating something new and interesting. I’m almost mad at these Skittles.

There are two problems, but both problems kind of tie in together. Most of the time Skittles have a list of flavours somewhere on the package. This list of flavours is often in a very obvious place, sometimes it’s listed on the front, sometimes they have diagrams of the various colours with the flavours of the colours right next to it. This package does list the flavours, however it’s in small print, on the back of the package right before the list of ingredients. It took me a while to find.

The reason I went hunting for this list is two fold. The first reason is that I tasted one of each of the five colours and really could only place two. The orange and lemon are pretty obvious, both in colour and flavour. The rest are just mysterious fruit flavours that I really couldn’t place. It’s also worth noting that I could place the orange and lemon flavoured Skittles, but I couldn’t figure out why they were desserts. This is the primary reasons I searched out the flavour names.

Once I found the flavours listed on the back I was even more baffled. The back of the package labels the flavours as “chocolate, vanilla, lemon, wild cherry, orange and strawberry”. First of all, I only received 5 different flavours of Skittles, so I know for a fact that at least one is missing. Secondly, while there might have been wild cherry and strawberry Skittles in my mix, I did not taste any vanilla or chocolate at all. I was obviously missing a flavour, two of the flavours were definitely not in this package, and most of the flavours were very vague. Worst of all, none of these flavours really represent any kind of dessert. While many of these are found in some desserts, you could pretty much argue that for almost every single flavour of Skittles.

While the fruity flavours were fine, the theme just didn’t work at all. There was obviously some problems at the factory when designing the flavours and colours. I also seem to have been denied a particular flavour. This bag was a hot mess, and frankly I’ve never been so disappointed with a bag of Skittles.
