Twix "Choco-Hazelnut"

Mars

Sometimes a small difference can throw you off a bit, but I’m not sure it’s fair. The difference between this Twix bar and a classic Twix are two slight variations. The first is the a hazelnut flavour. It’s strong enough that I could taste it the minute I bit into the bar, but it’s subtle enough that the flavour didn’t over power. I’m pretty sure the flavour is coming from the cookie, but I’m not sure if it’s a hazelnut flavour, or if there is actual ground up hazelnut in the cookie. I can say for certain that I didn’t get any kind of hazelnut texture (which I really like), but the flavour seemed pretty authentic.

The other slight difference in this bar compared to the classic Twix is something I’m not even certain of. I don’t have a regular Twix next to me to compare, but I feel like the cookie in this bar is a little more crumbly than the regular Twix. Again, I wouldn’t say that this difference is bad, it’s just different. Other than that, I would say that this Twix is exactly the same as the classic Twix. It’s still has a nice milk chocolate coating and a nice layer of caramel.

If I was to nitpick this bar, I would say that the differences don’t really improve the bar that much, they just make it... well.. different. My biggest complaint would be the lack of any kind of hazelnut texture, which I really like. When a bar promises a nut, I expect a nutty texture. The flavour was nice, but a little hazelnut crunch would have been good too. I’m also a little confused about the “choco” in the name. Sure the Twix is covered in chocolate, but the regular Twix is not called a choco Twix. There might be a little more chocolate in the cookie, but I don’t think I could really taste it.

Having said all of that, they did manage to make a bar that feels exactly like a Twix bar, but a little different. Making variations of classic treats is really a balancing act. Change the recipe too much and it’s no longer the same bar, don’t change it enough and you feel like they haven’t done enough. I would say that this bar has done enough, but just barely.
