It's about time! You can quote me on this, because it's really big news for me. For the first time that I can remember, I can say that I've eaten a mass produced American chocolate treat, and I'm satisfied with the results. The quality is nice, the texture is nice, the taste is nice, it's a really nice square of chocolate. I still don't know why North American chocolate companies insist on not making their regular bars with better chocolate, but this is a step in the right direction. There just seems to be the acceptance in the United States that chocolate bars don’t have to be excellent. I don’t understand it, and I think more Americans should stand up to inferior chocolate.

The idea behind this particular square of chocolate is that it is made with the whole cocoa bean. I'm not sure what they normally take out of the cocoa bean, but after biting into this I'm disappointed that anything might be removed. It would appear that sometimes (particularly in mass produced American chocolate) candy companies take out the bits of the cocoa bean that hold in the smooth nice flavour. Apparently eating the whole bean is better for you as well, but if you've read any other part of this site, you'll realize that my health is really the last thing I worry about.

Congrats Hershey, this Whole Bean chocolate is a step in the right direction. Now you have to start making your other Hershey bars with chocolate of this caliber. We know you can make it, so now we’ll start to expect it.
