I bought this candy because I was impressed at the look of the goldfish on the package. I just grabbed it off the shelf and figured that I couldn’t go wrong with a bag of gummies, and if the goldfish in the bag looked as cool as they do on the package I’d be a little bit happier. But also would have been fine if the goldfish didn’t look nearly as good as it did on the package as well. The good news is that the goldfish look’s great, the other underwater creatures also look good, but the fish did look so much better. Already it’s looking good from a novelty standpoint for these gummies.
What makes this treat fantastic is that flavour and texture wise they also did really well. Rather than just using the colour to make these translucent sea creatures look cool, they also added a texture difference too. The transparent parts of these gummies (the outer shell) is a typical gummy texture, but the colourful centres are almost more of a gel than a gummy. It’s a nice combination of textures and even works well with the seafood theme.
Flavour wise I have one compliant and one compliment. My complaint comes from the apple flavour on offer, I’m just not a fan. The two other flavours, pineapple and lychee are unique tropical flavours that tasted great. The apple doesn’t really fit into the tropical theme, and I’m not a huge fan of fake apple. If you love fake apple flavours maybe you’ll be a little happier, but for me it just didn’t fit in the theme and it tasted kind of yucky.
The compliment comes from the other two flavours pineapple and lychee. The pineapple tasted great and you don’t get that many pineapple flavoured gummies, so it was unique. The lychee also tasted great and I don’t know if I’ve ever had a lychee flavoured gummy before, so it was totally unique. It was so innovative that it made me wonder why more candy companies aren’t making lychee flavoured gummies. The texture of gummy matches so well with lychee, and the flavour was even pretty close to the real thing.
