Banana Split Milk Chocolate

Siamaya

In some ways this bar is very successful, but in one way it kind of fails a little. I’ll start by listing the successful reasons first, and there are a few of them. I don’t know if I’ve ever tried a chocolate bar with dried banana in it, or even dried strawberries. I now know that this fruity combination works fairly well. There is a slight sour flavour to this bar that I think is coming from the banana, but in general both of these elements work well in a chocolate bar. The peanuts are also good, but I think we all know that peanuts and chocolate are a good choice. The most important thing however is that the chocolate tastes pretty good as well, and it binds all of the flavours together well.

The biggest problem with this bar is theme related. It claims to be a “banana split in every decadent bite”, but there’s one important ingredient missing, the ice cream. While I know selling a frozen bar is difficult (particularly in a place like Thailand where this bar comes from), but I feel like you could at least attempt the cream part of the ice cream. This bar is more a collection of great ingredients for a banana split than a full banana split in every bite. A little pocket of cream in each bar might have solved this problem and made this bar more of a full dessert than a great ingredient for a dessert.

I really respect this bar even though it didn’t exactly capture the theme entirely. It’s a blend of creative flavours that work well with the high quality milk chocolate. The ratio of ingredients is pretty good, not too overpowering, but I found that in two squares you’ll get a nice sample of every flavour. The sourness might turn a few people off but I didn’t mind it that much. I guess my disappointment about the cream comes from the fact that all of the other elements worked so well. It seems like a company doing this much work could go one step further and make this bar a perfect banana split treat.
