How bizarre this treat is for you depends greatly on if you’re familiar with corn ice cream. In parts of Asia corn flavoured ice cream is fairly common. Just so it’s clear, it is not just made of corn but it also tastes like corn as well. Most corn flavoured ice creams I’ve tasted in the past are also very strong in flavour. In other words, when you take your first bite or lick of corn ice cream, there’s no doubt what flavour it’s supposed to be.
While corn might seem odd as a flavour of ice cream at first, when you think about it they do call it sweet corn. Corn also works well with cream like in soups or even creamed corn. So if you can get over the initial shock, the corn flavour of this and many other corn ice creams is okay. With this particular treat, I would actually like even more corn. I’ve had corn ice creams in the past that have had bits of corn mixed in and this would have been nice with this particular treat as well.
The true joy of this treat however is the shape. When you open the package you’re met with a long cool treat shaped just like some corn on the cob. The shape isn’t from the ice cream itself, but a thin wafer like coating shaped like corn. While the wafer is flavourless, it does add a nice texture and keeps the ice cream from dripping. It might have been nice if the wafer had a flavour, but it didn’t ruin this treat either.
This is a fine way to experience your first corn ice cream. First of all, it’s not very big, so if the corn flavour doesn’t work for you then no great loss. Secondly it’s got a pretty fun design.
