Fruity Pebbles Candy Bar

Frankford

It’s been a while since I’ve had a bowl of Fruity Pebbles. It’s totally possible that I haven’t had a bowl of them in more than 30 years. It’s not that I don’t like them, it’s just rare for me to buy sugary cereals and when I do I generally get others. The thing about this bar is although I haven’t had Fruity Pebbles in many years, the minute I opened the package I remembered exactly what Fruity Pebbles tasted like. The minute I even ripped open the package, a huge wave of fake fruit flavour filled my nose.

It should also be said that the minute I took my first bite of this bar my entire head was filled with the flavour and smell of Fruity Pebbles. What I’m trying to say is, this bar is not subtle at all. In fact it hits you over the head not like a pebble, but a giant rock. Several hours after eating this bar I could still taste the intense fake fruit flavour that is found in Fruity Pebbles. I’m not sure if the flavour actually lingered, or if I just couldn’t get that flavour explosion out of my mind. If you’ve never had Fruity Pebbles before, I feel like this might be too intense an introduction. I feel like this cereal flavour needs to be cooled down with a bit of milk.

This leads me to the problem with this bar, and that’s the chocolate. The chocolate is here for no other reason than to give some texture, and hold the Fruity Pebbles together. I did not taste anything creamy or chocolate like at all in this bar. If someone told me that it wasn’t white chocolate, and just a new kind of wax they’re putting on the market with a chocolate like texture, I’d believe them. I’m almost convinced they flavoured the white chocolate as well as the Fruity Pebbles inside the bar. It’s too bad since as I mentioned before, milk really calms down the intense fake fruit flavour from Fruity Pebbles. I feel like this bar could use a little bit of a creamy calming flavour and texture.

This bar is truly designed for the ultimate Fruity Pebbles fan. Maybe it might be okay for those nostalgic for the cereal and they want a really bold reminder. I just think that if someone was unprepared they might find this bar a little too intense.
