This isn’t the first Orion gummy treat that claims you can peel it that I’ve tried. Much like the other (passion fruit I believe) treat like this that I tried, I found peeling these to be all but impossible. I bit, peeled and tugged on the outer gummy shell in several different ways, but could not separate the outer coating from the inside goo. I really think the problem is that the centre is too soft to allow you to peel off the outer layer. Most of the time I’d end up just breaking it in half as well as making my fingers sticky from the goo in the middle.
Unlike the passion fruit version, I found the centre goo in this gummy to be nothing like a real grape. The size was closer, but the goo lacked a firmness that a real grape would provide. Flavour wise it also tasted much more like a fake grape than any real grape I’ve ever eaten. Not that I don’t like fake grape flavours, I just thought it might have been nice to have something a little more authentically grape considering the peel-ability of the candy.
I really wanted the peeling action of this gummy to work, but it just failed. What you end up with is a fairly chewy gummy shell filled with a really soft gooey centre. It’s not a bad gummy at all, but it just lacks the fun aspect that seems to be suggested on the package. I would never tell you to avoid getting these if you come across them, I’d just suggest you lower your expectations about peeling them. That is unless I’m missing something about these, and there’s some magical way to peel them that I just couldn’t figure out.
