I feel like the objective review I would write for Rosebuds would be very different than the nostalgic review I would write for Rosebuds. This is a candy that’s very near and dear to my heart, and a regular go to treat when I was a kid. I have fond memories of eating this while on walks with my dad or playing with my friends. Even just looking at these makes me remember my childhood and all the good times I had. This is what the nostalgic part of my brain does when I eat or even see a handful of Rosebuds.

The problem is that I don’t think the candy really holds up objectively. It’s funny because even when I look back on when I was a kids I kind of remember Rosebuds tasting a little bit like cardboard. I believe this is because they used to come in cardboard boxes and I feel as though they take on any flavour that might be around them. That was certainly the case with these, as I had purchased them at a bulk food store, I felt like they tasted a little bit like some of the other candy around them. The chocolate is okay quality wise, but I feel like it’s a flavour magnet. Maybe if you bought them in sealed bags that were closed at the factory they might not have such a strong after taste, but no luck when you buy them at a bulk food store.

The other things that’s odd about them objectively is the shape. While it only means fond memories for me, I think they kind of look like fancy poop emojis. You could argue that they look like fancy Hershey’s Kisses too I guess, but without being individually wrapped you don’t get to see them outside of being just brown lumps.

I really enjoyed eating these Rosebuds until I started to think about it too much. If you have fond childhood memories of this candy I totally get it, you’ll still love them today as much as you did when you were a kid. If on the other hand you’re trying them for the first time, I’m not sure if you’ll love them and you may be wondering why so many of us do.
