As a design I would say that this bar has everything going for it. The concept is both simple and unique, and should work if not for a few flaws. These flaws aren’t even that numerous, but unfortunately they’re really big. The idea of a bar that has creamy white chocolate and strawberry chocolate seems like it could work. After all, strawberries and cream works, and strawberry and chocolate works. I’m also a big fan of bars that are milk or cream flavoured. The cookie bits even work in the theme since milk and cookies works and I’ve even had a few fruity cookies in my day that have worked really well.
The big problem with this bar is the flavour, or more importantly the lack of flavour. There is most certainly a strawberry flavour to this bar, but it actually smells stronger than it tastes. After a few chews of this bar it feel like your chewing some kind of lightly flavoured strawberry wax, rather than a creamy chocolate bar. The flavour is also pretty standard no matter which colour you happened to be eating. It’s not promised that each colour of chocolate would have a different flavour, but I feel like that would have made the bar much better.
The texture is also a problem, and it affected the flavour a lot. I described it earlier like wax, and I think that’s the best description for the texture. It doesn’t melt in you mouth the way high quality chocolate should, and it leaves a really weird waxy film all over your mouth. The cookie bits don’t really add any flavour, but texture wise they’re okay on their own. The problem is that the chocolate is so waxy that it just makes the cookie feel like grit, rather than a nice counterpoint to the chocolate.
I wanted this bar to work, but it just doesn’t. I’ve said before that I’ve had problems with fruit flavoured chocolate bars in the past, and this is a prime example. It’s not that fruit flavoured bars can’t work, they’re just difficult and can’t be made cheaply.
