I’ve tasted a bar that’s very similar to this bar, even the name is almost the same. The bar is called Mr Big, and while the concept is the same there are a few differences. Since I’m not sure which bar is older, I’m not sure if I can fairly call this Big Big bar a ripoff of the Mr Big bar. I’ll probably compare the two bars, but that’s only because the Mr Big bar is a classic Canadian treat and a staple in my childhood candy bar lineup. That also brings up the interesting fact that a bar from Korea and a bar from Canada can be so similar is pretty random. I’ve not seen similar bars like this from two very different parts anywhere in the world.
The design of this bar is similar to an Oh Henry bar, but instead of fudge and nuts you get wafers and rice crisps. This makes this bar super light and very crunchy. While there are some nuts in the chocolate coating, most of the crunch comes from the rice crisps. That is besides the wafers in the centre, that provide most of the crunch overall. There’s enough light crunchy ingredients in this bar that they pretty much dominate in both taste and texture.
There is also some caramel and a good amount of chocolate too. The chocolate is a nice quality, so it’s probably the second strongest flavour in this bar. The caramel works like a glue, and while it gives a bit of texture, flavour wise it’s not really doing much. The peanuts give such a subtle flavour that it’s almost an afterthought.
The above review could work for both this Big Big bar and the Mr Big, but there are a few differences. The main difference is in the texture of the wafer in the middle. The Mr Big has a much lighter wafer. In comparison it’s almost airy. I also seem to remember the Mr Big having a few more peanuts. In some ways I wish I could have a bar with the Big Big wafer, but the Mr Big balance of ingredients.
