Black Ace Licorice

The Great American Licorice

This is one of those treats that a great deal of pressure has been put upon me. The wonderful company that manufactures these treats sent me an e-mail and asked if I wanted to try some of the best licorice ever, or something to that effect. The pressure that is upon me is two-fold: First of all, I've tried some pretty good licorice in my life, or so I'm told, it came from Australia and it wasn't bad. Secondly, I'm not really a big fan of licorice, particularly the black stuff. I don't want to sound negative but my hopes are not high.

Ok, so it's not that bad, in fact it's pretty good. I can't go so far as to say I really "like it" but as far as black licorice goes it's not horrible. The taste is a lot smoother than most other licorice I've tried and the texture is kind of gummy like, with these two combinations the flavour isn't too overpowering. That's one of the biggest problems I have with most licorice candies, it just slams the crap out of me with a strong astringent flavour. This makes it hard for those of us that don't really like liquorice but want to try and acquire a taste for it.

So, it's not bad if you're not a huge fan of liquorice but if your one of those people that likes the really strong stuff you may be disappointed.
