The thing I liked most about these turned into the thing I liked least about these. The size of these Bombur is something I really liked after eating a couple of these chocolate covered nougat pillows. The problem is after I ate a few more, the size became a bit of a problem. I would describe these Bombur as bigger than you might expect, but not humongous. Maybe about 2.5 centimetres (just under 1 inches for you Americans out there) across, they’re a lot bigger than I expected them to be. I thought they might be the slightly larger than a Skittle, and not the size of a medium to large gumball. This was a welcome surprise to me at first as they really give you a good amount of chocolate coating and a challenging nougat centre.
The problem is after eating a few of these the chewy nougat centre is a bit of a challenge to eat. I would say by the third or fourth Bombur my jaw was hurting a bit. I generally would stop eating them around the sixth. That might be a good thing as I’d probably have finished the whole bag if my jaw didn’t hurt. The other advantage to these being hard to chew after a while is that I attempted to suck on one to see if it would make it any easier. As it turns out sucking on these actually makes them a slightly different treat. After a few seconds the chocolate starts to melt, and really tastes pretty good. Then, after you get the through the chocolate, the nougat centre has softened a bit, and also has a really great vanilla flavour. Combined they’re pretty good, but the two different flavours aren’t as distinguishable.
The design of this candy isn’t really unique, yet I’ve never seen anything exactly like it. Nougat and chocolate as a pair is fairly common, but at this size and this exact shape is different. The flavours aren’t anything unique either, vanilla nougat and milk chocolate always go well together, but fortunately the folks at Freyja used fairly good quality ingredients. I don’t think these are anything mind blowingly unique, but there are a few unique features.
