The first thing I want to clear up about this bar is how official it might be. For any of you who have travelled to London, you know that there are many tourist shops selling what may or may not be authentic royal merchandise. Some of this merchandise is very easy to guess if it’s official, other pieces are less difficult to tell. There is however one shop in London where you can be certain that every single thing is official, and that’s because the shop is actually found in Buckingham Palace. I purchased this chocolate in that shop. This bar also has a seal from the Royal Trust, and while that can be faked, the fact that I bought it on the grounds of the palace makes this very legitimate.

This brings me to the bar itself. The assumption is probably that since this bar is an official “luxury milk chocolate” bar from the British royal family, it must be the highest quality chocolate possible. This is where this bar falls down a bit. The standards for milk chocolate in the UK is very high, after all the best milk chocolate bar (according to this site) is a British Dairy Milk bar. You would assume that because this bar is supposed to represent the royals, and because it was not cheap at all, that it would be even better. Plain and simple, it’s worse.

It’s not a lot worse, but it’s bad enough that even people who don’t eat chocolate for a living might find it a little disappointing. The best way to describe this chocolate is to compare it to the chocolate one might find in an advent calendar. However, if this was chocolate from an advent calendar, it would be a fairly high quality advent calendar. So it’s not the best chocolate at all, but it’s not absolutely horrible.

I think if this was just a bar I’d probably say it was fine, and might even suggest you give it a try. The fact that it’s not a cheap chocolate bar, and that it’s supposed to represent the tastes of the British royal family I would say that it’s good, but disappointing.
