Skittles "Chocolatey Eruption"

Wrigley's

When I was a kid Skittles didn't mess around. They where fruity, chewy and you only had one kind, the multi fruit flavours found in the red package. To branch off into chocolate, this some kind of crazy world we live in. Wait a minute, I guess we live in a world of constant candy variations, so why can't Skittles do it as well?

I'll start out by saying that I really didn't mind these chocolate Skittles that much. I don't like them as much as the regular fruit flavoured Skittles, but they're not bad. The flavours actually had distinction between each variety. As with regular Skittles these had the classic Skittles hurt your jaw a little if you eat too many of them, but still kind of nice texture. I say this first because I did have a few problems with them and I figured I'd start out positive for once in these reviews.

The flavours are the first issue I had with these. Of the 5 flavours in each pack only two are actually "chocolate" flavours. You're also getting flavours like Vanilla and Caramel as well. Now I don't want to be picky, but last time I checked Vanilla and Caramel weren't chocolate. I can see the dilemma that the Skittles folks may have had in trying to name these, but it's really misleading to say that it's all chocolate. I also believe that there are more types of chocolate like flavours not represented that would have made the name correct, white chocolate for example.

I'm not sure if my second problem is really fair to call it a problem, but basically these just tasted like Tootsie Rolls. I'm not sure why this is a problem, but it just disturbs me a little. I guess that's just me hopping for something new and exciting with these chocolate Skittles, and not finding it. I'm sure I'm just being picky, but hey that's really what I do.
