I wasn’t expecting much from this candy bar to be honest. There are certain times when I see a candy on the shelves and I’m almost certain that it’s not going to be great. I tend to buy this kind of treat if it’s something new (to me at least) or if I just want to mix things up a bit. After all you can’t find hidden treasures if you don’t dig through the mud a bit. This package was even more suspicious because of all the “health” claims it makes. I find that inexpensive candy with a lot of health claims tends to lead to disaster. I’ll be totally honest, the thing that made me really buy this bar is the fact that the dinosaur on the package was wearing a shirt that said “Kris”, and even though it’s spelled wrong, it is my name.
When I opened the package I continued to be very skeptical. First of all the shape was a little off, a little wonky. The second thing that made me worried was the fact that all of the rice crisps were at the bottom of the bar. This is often a sign of lazy candy making. So the package was suspicious and the bar seemed to be cheaply made, but after that it was fairly surprising.
The main thing that surprised me is the fact that the chocolate wasn’t that bad. It was by no means a high quality chocolate bar, but for cheaper chocolate it was pretty good. It melted well enough and had a nice smooth texture. The rice crisps were a little weird, mostly in that they seemed much bigger than many rice crisps that I’ve seen in the past. They almost felt like small puffed wheat, instead of rice crisps. This actually added a really nice crunch to this bar, and the fact that they were at the bottom meant they were fairly well distributed.
The strawberry flavour was probably the weakest part of this bar. It wasn’t bad, even though it was kind of fake it was just really weak. I don’t think I’ve ever had a spectacular strawberry flavoured candy bar in my life, at least one that didn’t use real strawberries. This is really no exception, except for the fact that it was kind of weak so it didn’t ruin the rest of the bar. So while the strawberry was a bit of a failure, that probably made the bar even better.
