I’m always curious about chip companies that make potato chip snacks that aren’t actually potato chips. I do know a little about potato chip manufacturing and while making a good chip takes skill, the basics are simple. At the very least I feel like cutting up a potato, prepping it and then frying it has to be simpler than mixing a concoction, forming or extruding it into potato chip shapes, then frying them. What is even more puzzling to me is who in the world prefers these. While I don’t mind an occasional extruded or formed, puffed out snack now and again, I’ll almost always go for a real potato snack any day.

Don’t get me wrong, there are some corn based puffed snacks that I love, I just find that potato and wheat based puffed snacks don’t work as well. It’s a shame about these Criss Cross cheese snacks too because every other aspect of these is pretty good. The cheese flavouring is plentiful and tastes pretty good. I’m also a sucker for lattice cut (or shaped) treats too.

I just don’t understand why they didn’t just make these lattice cut potato chips. As it stands potato is the third ingredient in these. This seems odd since potato is definitely what they’re trying to sell us on. I wouldn’t say that these tasted bad, but they did taste a little of disappointment.
