Milk Bo-ro

In my recent experience in Japan I've come across new tastes that both make me happy and make me sad. The fact that these Milk Bo-ro are new, makes me happy, I always love a taste adventure. I also like that I'm starting to recognise flavour trends in Japanese candies, it's an interesting and educational experience. These little cookies follow just such a trend that I’ve started to see. These cookies have a hard flavour to pinpoint, but it's best described as a sugar/cracker with a hint of what I can only say is fish. Yup, I said fish.

The problem with this fish like flavour is I find it to be too strong and too bland all at the same time. It's like a super bland flavour that kills all other flavours in your mouth, and leaves you with a slight fishy aftertaste. It's not something I find particularly pleasurable; however, I've seen it in Japanese snacks so much that I'm going to make it my goal to grow to like it. After all it’s not a horrible taste, even though on paper it sounds like it should be. It’s just a really strange flavour, and that’s something I might be able to build a taste for, or at the very least a tolerance.

I've grown to like root beer in the past, and my tolerance for licorice is going up, why not try and enjoy these ultra bland, sweet with a slightly fishy aftertaste cracker things? Hmmmm, maybe I should re-think this idea.
