Islanti Island

Fazer

This package is very misleading, I think. When looking at the package you might expect to get something cool, maybe even minty. Every single image on the package signifies cold thing. Polar bears, icicles, and even snow flakes all say cool treat to me. While it doesn’t have to be minty, there could be at least a hint of menthol or something. I also had a bit of bias when I bought this treat, as it’s made by Fazer, a brand known for its chocolate. Honestly I was expecting some kind of long chocolate stick with a mint flavour.

The minute I opened up the package I realized that I was not getting what I expected. After a few seconds of sucking on this hard-ish candy I realized I wasn’t even getting anything cool or minty. Instead what this appears to be is some kind of mysterious fruit flavoured hard candy stick with a softer centre. I couldn’t tell if the centre was made up of a condensed powder or some kind of taffy, but it was much softer than the hard-ish candy shell. The fruity flavour was hard to figure out as well. The candy was green coloured, but the flavour didn’t appear to be lime or apple. I would almost describe the flavour as slightly tropical, which makes even less sense since “Islanti” means Iceland.

Another mystery of this candy is one I’ve come across before, and that’s the texture. Sometimes I come across “hard” candies that aren’t actually entirely hard. Sometimes these candies have an almost chewy, but still slightly hard texture. I know that hard candies can get soft if stored improperly, but I’ve also tasted hard candies that just have this soft like texture. This candy had it, but I’m not sure if it’s on purpose or not. I’m also not sure if putting this candy in the category of “hard candy” is fair.

I most certainly enjoyed this candy, but I don’t really understand it. If you come across a bunch of Fazer treats, I would say that it might be best to skip this one and try another. As a basic hard candy it’s fine, but also a little strange.
