Every so often when I’m writing a review, I have no idea what I’m getting into, this is one of those occasions. There are literally two words on this package in English; mini and Haitai. The word mini makes me assume that this treat is also available in a larger size. Haitai is below what looks like some kind of logo, so I’m assuming it’s the name of the company that makes them. The back of the package also has some writing, but the only thing I can make out in that is a treble-clef. This really only confuses me more.
Upon opening it the package I would describe it as looking like a chocolate/candy bar of some kind. It’s a bit of a relief because on the package there’s a picture of what appears to be a cat playing basketball. I was worried that this would be some kind of granola or protein bar at first. I generally don’t review granola bars and there are several protein bars that I would probably pass over too. It’s not that I don’t like healthy treats (I actually really enjoy granola bars), I just find they’re a little too close to not being candy (says the guy who includes potato chips in this category).
After all of this, the first bite reveals to me some kind of nougat with a caramel top all covered in chocolate. There also appears to be some kind of nuts involved as well, my guess being peanuts. What you have here is the perfect description of a Snickers bar, but what you have here is a bar that doesn’t really match up to a Snickers bar. The first and most obvious problem is the odd ratio of ingredients. The most lacking of all the ingredients is the chocolate. I’d also be happy with a bit more caramel as well.
The second problem comes from the nougat I believe. There seems to be some kind of strange perfumed flavour coming off this bar. It’s more potent than just about every other flavour, and really doesn’t go well with a peanut, caramel, chocolate and nougat combination. I only assume it’s in the nougat, as nougat is probably the easiest ingredient in this bar to add additional flavours.
I’m not really impressed with this little bar. It’s basically a copy of a Snickers bar, but far bellow the level of quality, and with a strange perfumed addition.
