I feel like this bar is proof that a simple concept in chocolate bars can be very different. What I’m saying is that not all chocolate bars are the same, even chocolate bars that contain the same ingredients. While my translation skills are not the best, I assume that “saltekaramel” would translate into salted caramel. Feel free to correct me if I’m wrong. This is not a new concept for any kind of chocolate or candy bar, yet I don’t think I’ve ever had a bar like this one.

The first really original design in this bar is the shape. Instead of being a single long bar, or even your common bar with breakable squares, this bar has longer and slimmer bars. I’ve never seen a bar like this, and while I’m not sure it’s better than the classic breakable square tablet, it still works well and I would say it’s at the very least on par. The good thing is however that it’s different.

The other difference is either a true difference or a mistranslation on my part. There is no real caramel in this bar as far as I could tell. I would describe the caramel portion of this bar to be something more like a toffee. I bought this bar in Norway, so I’m not sure if toffee and caramel are considered the same thing there, but compared to many bars I’ve tasted in the past, I would say that this does not qualify as a caramel. Having said that, I really liked the toffee bits in the bar, and the idea of salted, crunchy toffee bits is a great one for a candy bar.

I really enjoyed eating this bar. The chocolate is a nice quality, smooth and creamy. It also has enough cocoa that the chocolate flavour is king. The toffee (or caramel) bits are crunchy and add both a nice texture and flavour to this bar. I would say that the biggest fault of this bar is the salt, or lack of it. I could maybe taste a little salt, but it was well and truly covered over by the sweetness of the chocolate and toffee. Maybe this bar would have been overtly sweet had the salt not been there, but I didn’t really taste salt as much as I tasted a well balanced toffee and chocolate bar.
