I wasn’t even sure if I was going to review these almonds. I don’t normally review nuts on this page, unless they’re more than just sprinkled with some flavouring. For a nut to be reviewed it must either be very much coated in flavouring (like a candy or chocolate coating) or in some rare occasions the flavouring can be so unique that I just can’t imagine not reviewing it. These almonds cover both of those criteria, and they do it so very well.
HBAF Almonds are a trendy snack right now in parts Asia. I’d seen them before, but I was hastened to try them because I thought they were just flavoured almonds and they were very expensive. However, I happened to be stocking up for a long(ish) train trip and decided to give them a try. As it turns out they might be one of the best almond candies I’ve ever eaten. This is even higher praise when you factor in that this isn’t the first choice of flavours I would have selected. We picked this flavour because Allison was curious about them too and I let her pick a flavour. I would have never picked the coffee flavour, but now I don’t regret it at all.
Each and every flavour mentioned in the name of this treat is a star. There is most certainly a toffee flavour, and it’s wonderfully sweet, but also has that burnt toffee flavour as well. The latte flavour is also present, but it’s both creamy with a wonderful hint of coffee. It’s also important to mention that the almonds are also an important part of both the flavour and the texture and they taste great.
Speaking of texture, I should mention that the coating on these is closer to a chocolate cover than just a flavoured powder. The difference is that this isn’t just a flavoured chocolate coating. The texture of the coating has crunchy toffee bits that melt in your mouth perfectly. These almonds are not only creative in the flavour chosen, but the execution and ratio of flavours and ingredients is great.
This might be the best candy coated almonds I’ve ever tasted.
