Have you ever wondered what a Skittle would taste like if it was a different shape. I’ve never given much thought to the shape of Skittles before, or many other candies that have a similar shape. There are so many treats that come in that round button form in various sizes. Some of these treats have come out with varieties, but they almost always have more to do with the flavours, rather than the shape. Frankly the button shape of most candies is so common that I don’t even give it much thought, or more importantly that they could be different shapes.
This leaves me with these Hitschies (don’t ask me to pronounce it), these are essentially Skittles, but in a very peculiar shape. One could argue that the shape is better, but I’m not totally convinced. The reason I’m not convinced is that the novelty of the shape is really hitting me hard. I’m just so happy to have a new shape that I’m not entirely convinced that it’s better or worse. Objectively I feel like these are a little softer than Skittles, they also don’t roll around so much which means they’re harder to spill. I guess the disadvantage is that since they’re bigger, you can’t eat as many at one time. My brain is having a hard time deciding if the design is better or worse, so I’ll just say different.
Flavour wise these are pretty on par with Skittles. The flavours are a little different than the classic Skittles flavours, these have strawberry, apple, cherry, lemon and raspberry, but the basic flavour profile is similar. The one big fault I found with these is that two of the red flavours look almost identical. I believe those to be the cherry and raspberry. Fortunately the flavours are different enough so it’s no big deal.
These strange plastic looking sticks are really something worth trying. I feel like anyone who likes sweet treats would enjoy at least trying these. If you happen to be a serious Skittles fan I would suggest giving these a try for sure. While you may not love them as much as your beloved Skittles, you might really enjoy the strange new shape.
