Jolly Rancher "Cherry"

Jolly Rancher

I don’t get it. I don’t understand why the Jolly Rancher “Cherry” is so much better than the other classic Jolly Rancher flavours. Keep in mind that at the time of writing this review I’ve only tried the 5 classic flavours of Jolly Rancher, Apple, Watermelon, Blue Raspberry, and Grape. I would in general say that most of the flavours are pretty good, except watermelon, that’s not so good, but you can read the watermelon Jolly Rancher review for more on that, what I don’t understand is how a collection of candies that are okay, can produce such a wonderfully flavoured of candy.

Granted cherry candies, in my opinion, are often very good. I can’t off the top of my head think of any cherry flavoured candy that I don’t like. There are some that are pretty average, but none that I can think off that might be considered bad. This cherry candy on the other hand is amazing. It’s amazing because it tastes like cherries. It tastes more like cherries than just about any cherry candy I can think of, including some candies that might actually contain real cherries. There’s something about the flavour of this hard candy that really captures the spirit of cherries. I eat one of these hard candies and I’m instantly taken back to my childhood when I used to go to local cherry farms with my mother. The farmers would often allow us kids to climb their cherry trees and eat our fill of cherries right off the branches. It was a magical time, and these wonderful hard candies bring me right back.

The flavour is both a little sour and just the right amount of sweet. Best of all the flavour doesn’t change as you eat the candy. That to me is what a real cherry tastes like. Jolly Ranchers also have the strange hard yet sticky texture and I love it. This is a candy that I will never turn down if offered, this is a candy that if I can buy only the cherry flavour, I will. I can safely say that this is likely one of the best hard candies I know of, and it’s all because of the flavour. So why can’t they get the other Jolly Rancher flavours to be this great?
