Laura Secord "Milk Chocolate Maple Crunch"

Laura Secord

Half of this treat they got right on the nose the other half wasn’t so great, at least when it comes to the maple crunch. The chocolate is fine, not amazing just fine. Maybe 20 or 30 years ago I would have considered this to be great chocolate, but now I would just call it fine. The maple crunch on the other hand is a little more complicated to judge.

As far as it tasting like maple, it totally works. That’s likely because according to the package it’s just maple sugar. So it’s a pure and totally accurate to the flavour of Canadian maple syrup. My only complaint about the maple is that it could have been a little stronger flavour wise. The chocolate dominated a bit more rather than balancing with the maple. The crunch on the other hand, that was a complete failure. I would describe the texture of the crunch to be more of a grit. It almost made the chocolate feel like it went off texture wise. I mean it’s possible that I did have a slightly off bar that had no crunch at all, but I think it’s more likely an unsuccessful attempt at crunch.

This was an okay bar, but I wouldn’t call it great by any stretch of the imagination. On the spectrum of okay I would say it was on the low end. I can’t really recommend buying one of these, but if you’re presented one to eat, why not. You probably won’t love it, but at least you get a little taste of Canadian maple, and that’s always good.
