I’ve never been a barbecue sauce expert. In my expertise there are two categories of barbecue sauces, sweet and spicy. Sometimes you’ll get a spicier sweet sauce and sometimes you’ll get a sweeter spicy sauce, but in general I feel like there are only two categories. This is not to say that I think there are only two types of barbecue sauces, I understand that there are many and many of those have different flavour profiles. I guess what it boils down to is the fact that I’m not a huge fan of barbecue sauce, while I enjoy some sauce on pulled pork or brisket, I would never use it for anything else.
This is all to say that these chips would clearly fit into the sweet barbecue sauce flavour for me. It seems logical since the word “honey” is in the name. It’s probably no surprise that sweet barbecue sauces are my favourite kind of barbecue sauce, so in the same way I believe that these are some of the best barbecue flavoured chips I’ve ever eaten. I should also say that I generally don’t gravitate towards barbecue chips. If presented options I’ll almost never choose barbecue flavoured chips, particularly if the other option is salt and vinegar.
So I guess I would rank these as good, but not anything amazing. I feel like many barbecue sauce fanatics might not enjoy these as they are very sweet forward. I get the feeling that the spice flavour is an important part of barbecue sauces, and the spice flavour might be a little hidden under the sweet of the honey. It’s weird, I would say that these are the best barbecue potato chips I’ve ever eaten, yet I don’t know if I would recommend these to anyone who might be a barbecue fanatic.
