These really work, and I'm going to tell you why. The name of this candy perfectly describes what it is, these are crispy M&Ms. I say this because often treats that use words like "crispy" mean that they've added a crispy element, and this element changes the treat beyond making it crispy. It might affect the flavour, or they might add or subtract other ingredients to fit in the crispy bits, thus changing the candy entirely. While these may have a little less chocolate, it's not enough to make a huge difference.
These still taste just like plain M&Ms, but they have a crispy center. The crispy center (which according to the package is rice based) is fairly flavourless but packs a crispy punch. This is perfect because the flavour of regular M&Ms is pretty good, and it would be a shame if they sacrificed flavour for texture. It seems that Mars managed to find a way to keep both their classic flavour and this new texture. This tells me that there was some serious thought put into these, and that’s nice to see.
The only fault I can find with these is that they're fairly ugly. For some reason it seems that making a uniform shape in the manufacturing of these M&Ms is impossible. The peanut M&Ms are also not very uniform but for some reason aren't as ugly as these. It's certainly not a reason not to eat these, but it's noticeable.
