I should make sure I get one thing out of the way before I write this review; I'm not a huge fan of marshmallows. Don't get me wrong, I don't hate marshmallows, I just wouldn't pick a marshmallow over a chocolate bar or gummy bear. I'm also not a huge fan of things on sticks. As a kid I enjoyed lollipops, and I still do today, but putting things like chocolate and marshmallow on a stick drive’s me a little nuts because it just makes food really hard to eat. Before you assume that I judge this treat poorly right off the bat, I should tell you that I love crunchy icing, and covering a marshmallow in powder does make me enjoy them more.
So, after adding all the plus and minus’ of this treat, how does it rate? Well it wasn't completely horrible; in fact, it was pretty good. One of the problems did however stick (no pun intended) out as a problem, and that was the stick. With the hard texture of the icing on the top, and the soft texture of the marshmallow, making a stick useful for this treat would mean you would have to make sure the stick went all the way through the entire treat. Unfortunately, the stick only went through a portion of the marshmallow and didn't even make it to the icing. It pretty much made it impossible to eat on the stick and I was forced to pull it off after a few attempted bites.
The good features of this treat are numerous, and really put a smile on my face. The marshmallow was soft and light, something I do enjoy when I have to eat marshmallows. The sugar coating on the outside didn't have much of a flavour, but added a nice texture to the marshmallow. The icing on top was rock hard, a little tough to eat, but gratifying to bite into. The flavour of the icing was the biggest surprise; the fact that it had any flavour wasn’t expected at all. It was a slight fruity flavour that worked really well with the whole treat.
If you eliminate the stick from the treat, it's not too bad at all. It even looks a little like a cupcake, which is always fun.
