The Milky Way bar has been around forever and there certainly has been a reason why. It's one of those treats that combines some of the great chocolate bar ingredients, and makes it work pretty well. The nougat has the perfect texture, nice and fluffy and melts in your mouth. The caramel is a great touch in both texture and flavour. The chocolate, although not the highest quality that I’ve ever tasted, it wasn't bad for a North American bar. The quality of the ingredients and the ration of these ingredients is almost perfect, but that doesn’t mean it’s a perfect bar.
My problem with the Milky Way bar is that something seems to be missing. I'm not really sure what it is for sure, but if you compare it to other similar bars, I would suggest that they might want to add some nuts. The Mars Bar added almonds, and Snickers has always had peanuts so a nut could be a nice addition to this treat. Nuts not only add an interesting secondary flavour, but most importantly they add a really great texture. I think the addition of some nuts would not ruin this bar at all, as long as you kept a close eye on the ratio of nuts you add.
The Milky Way is a classic bar with a great taste, I just wish it had a little something else. While nuts would be the simple answer to improving this bar, I would also be happy with something else. It just needs something else, particularly in the texture.
