The first thing that came to mind when I saw these pillows is why they chose to describe the hard portion of these as crackers and not cookies or biscuits. My assumption was that maybe they didn’t sweeten them like a cookie. Having said that, I bought these is Asia (Philippines to be exact), a part of the world where it’s not uncommon to have sugar coated crackers in the cracker aisle. So I was torn between this label being a mis-translation or a possible misunderstanding.
As it turns out they’re maybe not as sweet as cookies, but I certainly wouldn’t call them crackers. They’re at best a slightly less sweet cookie or an overly sweet cracker. In other words I’d say these are closer to cookie territory than cracker. You’d also imagine that the chocolate filling would push them further into cookie territory, but that’s where the main problem with these pillows comes up.
The package describes these as “filled” with choco. I think filled is a vast exaggeration. I would describe the centre as being painted or maybe coated with chocolate. The actual centre is pretty much hollow, then there’s a light coating of chocolate, followed by a fairly thick cookie (or cracker if you choose). The ratio of chocolate to cookie is not great, and only made worse by the large air pocket.
The cookie was fine enough, and the chocolate was okay. The problem was that there just wasn’t a great balance between them. Too much crunch, way too much air, and not enough chocolate filling.
