Now that summer is here, you're going to see a lot of ice cream reviews on Candy Critic. Why is that? Well its going to be a really hot summer, and as long as I can write it off, I consider ice cream to be candy too. If you check out your local ice cream freezer, you'll notice a new trend, ice cream versions of already great treats. Is this a good idea? I think it is as long as you can still keep in spirit with the original treat. Some treats appear to be easy to transition into an ice cream version, others appear to be much more complicated.
This ice cream sandwich is a perfect example of a treat that might appear easy to transfer in to the ice cream world, but it’s actually kind of complicated. Christie’s could have easily slapped a couple of oversized Oreo cookies around some vanilla ice cream and called it and Oreo ice cream sandwich. Instead they went a few steps further and made this ice cream sandwich a better representation of the original. They started by taking two giant cookies (which is the obvious choice) and filled them instead with a wonderful creamy ice cream. This ice cream is not vanilla, it really tastes much more creamy kind of like the icing in an Oreo cookie. Best of all they added even more cookie bit to the ice cream.
This ice cream sandwich ware really in the true spirit of Oreo cookies. Not only that, this ice cream sandwich was great.
