I’m fairly satisfied with this chocolate bar, but I’m not sure about the name. It could be that the word “plopp” is some kind of cultural reference in Sweden that I don’t know about. Directly translated it appears to just mean “plop”, like the sound a rock makes when it hits the water. I’m going to assume that the Swedish people do not also use the word plop as a word to describe going number two in the bathroom. I only assume that because when you mix chocolate bars and toilet humour it can get a little dicey.
The bar itself has no relation to a rock being thrown into a lake or any kind of bathroom situation. It’s really just a basic chocolate bar filled with a soft caramel like filling, although I wouldn’t describe it as as a normal caramel and neither does the packaging. On the package it describes it as a “creamy toffee filling”. I don’t know if that’s true either, as a toffee often has a nice burnt sugar flavour. A caramel also has a burnt sugar flavour, but with an added creaminess. The Plopp however seems to be filled with a very sweet goo that doesn’t really have too much flavour at all.
The good news is that the chocolate really dominates over the sweet filling, although that meant that I had a hard time really placing the caramel flavour. Fortunately the chocolate was okay, so it’s not as if it ruined the bar. I’m sure it would have been nice to have a contrasting flavour of caramel and chocolate, but at least the flavour I got was okay. There are much better bars of this type out there, but if you think it might be fun to take a bite out of a Plopp, then at least you won’t be totally disappointed.
