Pocky Crushed Fruits "Strawberry Peach Yoghurt"

Glico

This seems like a new direction for Pocky. Fruit flavours are not new, neither is having a new texture, but this Pocky feels like it’s trying to promote itself as being healthy. The fact that the cookie sticks are made with “whole wheat” and that the fruit is real is mentioned many times on the package. Yoghurt is also mentioned a few times as well. While I’m no nutritionist, I really have a hard time imagining that this cookie like treat is healthier than most of the average Pocky out there. It also didn’t really taste particularly healthy.

The “yoghurt” is basically a creamy, fruit flavoured white chocolate. It was nice and smooth, but it felt like it was pretty full of sugar as well. The fruit was interesting, as it seemed to be either freeze dried or candied, then crushed, then blended with the yoghurt coating. I bit into one piece of fruit on its own and it was very crunchy, like candy. I guess that’s where the name “crushed fruits” comes from. The good thing about these is that the flavour is very fruity, in fact I would say that the fruit is the dominant flavour. You also get a good combination of both the strawberry and the peach. Both taste fairly authentic, but also kind of sweet.

The cookie was fascinating. Visually I’d say that it looked a bit like it was made with whole wheat, but I had a hard time tasting it. The fruit flavour and creamy chocolate really dominated over whatever the whole wheat was giving as far as flavour goes. It’s a shame, because I think a strong grainy flavour could work really well with a sweet and fruity Pocky. It would balance out the sweet a little bit more and create a nice contrast.

I would definitely recommend you give these a try if a peach and strawberry Pocky is something that interests you. I’d have a harder time suggesting these for you if you were trying to eat healthier, as I’m just not sure the benefits outweigh the sugar.
