Reese "Crispy" Peanut Butter Cups

As candy variations go, this one really is not that much different than the original Reese’s Peanut Butter Cup. So, if you like the regular Reese Peanut Butter Cups, you'll enjoy these as well. This can be a challenge when a candy company creates a variation of a classic treat. If you make too many changes to the treat, then it’s too different and no longer has the spirit of the original treat. If you don’t do enough however, it seems a little pointless to make this treat in the first place. Making a variation of a treat is a balancing act between innovation and recognition of the classic treat your changing.

The difference between these peanut butter cups and the classic peanut butter cups is a few rice crisps added to give it a little texture. These crisps aren't a bad addition but not that dramatic. We’ve also already had variation so on Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups in the bas that have added a little more crunch, most notably the crunchy version filled with crunchy peanut butter. These little rice crisps do add a bit of texture, but it’s not as effective as the pieces of peanut, and the crisps add almost nothing to the flavour.

I’m not sure if there would be any way to improve this treat. If you added more crisps, it might lose touch with the original peanut butter cups. Maybe rice crisps just aren’t a good fit with this particular treat.
