The name of this bar seems to omit a flavour. There is no doubt that the white chocolate and cinnamon are an important part of this bar, behind it all I taste something really unique, brown sugar. After reading the back of the package I don’t see it listed anywhere, but there is no mistake that this bar tastes like it has a heavy dose of brown sugar. I’m thinking that it comes from the sweet smoothness of the white chocolate and the spice of the cinnamon. I’m willing to bet that it wasn’t intentional, but I couldn’t avoid tasting it, and I love it.
I don’t think I’ve ever tasted a chocolate bar that used brown sugar before, but at this point I’m wondering why. The molasses sweet flavour just worked perfectly with the white chocolate. The combination of cinnamon and brown sugar is also classic, so we know that already works. Again, I don’t actually see brown sugar listed in the ingredients, but maybe it should be. Maybe brown sugar could be the thing that turns people from white chocolate haters to big fans.
I enjoyed this bar very much because it just had a great balance of flavour, and inspired a new treat flavour combination in me. While I did enjoy the bar, it wasn’t perfect. My biggest complaint comes from the white chocolate, in particularly the texture. I’ve had a few Ritter Sport bars in my life and most of the time I’m very happy with the quality and texture of the chocolate, this wasn’t to be the case. I found this chocolate to be very waxy and didn’t melt the way most other Ritter Sport bars melt. I’m not sure if it had anything to do with the additional ingredients, but I just felt like I was biting this bar more than letting it melt in my mouth.
The crisps, the cinnamon, and that combination that created a wonderful brown sugar flavour was amazing. After accomplishing that, I feel like they could have included a white chocolate that melted in my mouth as well. I more melty chocolate could have even improved the already amazing flavour by letting it linger in my mouth a little longer.
