I feel like there’s one part of the package for these chips that’s a little misleading. The flavour of these chips is described as “original recipe chicken”, and there’s a word in here that just doesn’t work, chicken. I did not taste any chicken flavour in these at all, not even a hint. I’ll be honest, for the most part I find that chicken flavoured salty snacks are a disappointment, so I’m not that upset about this omission. The good thing is when I first saw these chips I wasn’t thinking chicken at all, it’s also why these chips really worked.

The reason these chips work is that they seem to take the 11 herbs and spices used in KFC and use them as a flavour specifically for potato chips. These chips don’t appear to be trying to taste exactly like the chicken, instead they just use the same flavours used at KFC to make a tasty potato chip. Don’t get me wrong, there is a similarity in the flavour of these chips compared to KFC chicken, but it doesn’t feel like they’re just trying to make a flavour copycat. I feel like the real difference boils down to the ratio of the 11 herbs and spices used on these chips compared to the chicken.

I feel like this makes these chips a little more special than just trying to copy the exact KFC flavour. First of all I like the fact that the flavours they’re using are authentically the combination of flavours used in KFC, they’re not faking it at all. I also appreciate that the people who developed these understand that a thin potato chip takes on flavours differently than a piece of chicken. This snack is unique where it needs to be but also very authentic.

There was one thing about these that I found a little strange, but it worked. I found these chips to have a bit of a creamy flavour to them, and I’m not sure why. The creamy flavour works with the 11 herbs and spices, but I just don’t really get a creamy flavour with KFC chicken. Maybe this is just another example of them using something to make the flavour work on potato chips. Not matter what it still works and these are a fun chip worth trying.
