I like these, and that's saying a lot, because I normally hate black licorice. This means I'm either gaining a taste for black salted licorice, or these are very unique. I should make it clear that I don't love these, but I don't want to spit them out and I'm not in any discomfort as I suck/chew this candy. The salty flavour does come through once in a while mixed with an astringent flavour of strong licorice, which reminds me why I'm not a big fan of licorice. But other than the occasional burst of astringent salt, it's a smooth licorice flavour that doesn't offend my pallet too much.
While I can tolerate the flavour, the texture is actually pretty good. It's a small little, chewy candy kind of like a gummy but harder. The size is small enough that it keeps my tong entertained as it chases the candy around my mouth. The texture is harder than most gummies, so every so often when it lands between my teeth, I can give it a satisfying chew. Then with little damage to the candy the black cat shaped gummy goes floating around my mouth again waiting for its next adventure.
I would say that if you hate black licorice, you're going to hate these a lot. If you're OK with black licorice, and you want to try something a little stronger than your classic black whip licorice, this might be a good transition candy. If you love licorice, I'm pretty sure you'll love these too. If you’re fanatical about licorice you can share them with friends who might not be so fanatical about this divisive candy, and they may not think you're crazy for eating it.
